Highlights of the 2022 virtual gathering
Our Keynote Speaker, Nancy Sherman, Distinguished University Professor and Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University, will present the keynote address on courage beyond facing fear.
“To have a chance of making it through these desperate times requires material and economic resources but also strong emotional supports, virtual and face to face. Building Stoic grit is not just a matter of inner toughness. It wasn’t in ancient times. And it isn’t now.”
Nancy Sherman, Stoic Wisdom.

Karen Duffy, New York Times bestselling author and former MTV VJ, will speak about courageous role models and her latest book, Wise Up!
“We are not all called to great acts of heroism, but opportunities for daily acts of valor and courage are all around you. We all have a choice. It is up to you to look for your shot to be useful: carrying groceries, holding the door, donating your time, buying a round, standing up for what is right, and being a mentor.”
Karen Duffy, Wise Up.
Named one of Oprah Daily’s 50 Most Anticipated Books of 2022
Christopher Gill, Emeritus Professor of Ancient Thought at the University of Exeter, will present an opening address on the Stoic definition of courage.

Melinda Latour, Rumsey Family Assistant Professor in the Humanities and Arts at Tufts University Department of Music, will talk about How To Listen to Music Like a Stoic.
At Courageous Paths to Flourishing, you will:
- Expand your understanding of Stoic courage
- Learn how to apply quiet, consistent forms of courage
- Learn how to make courageous judgments to help you know when to stand firm in the face of hard work, discomfort, or danger and when to pause, retreat and consider another action
- Understand that the key to courage is your willingness to do what needs to be done, despite the risk of personal harm or inconvenience
As Stoic women, we are strong, capable, and courageous.
We endure, we get things done, and we rise above the challenges and difficulties that inevitably follow us through life.
We don’t give up when the going gets tough.
But we also know when to pause, reflect, and back off.
Let’s come together to explore how we flourish, both as individuals and as a community, when we stand strong and let our courage shine through.
This is our season of courage.
